Anne of Green Gables — scene 1

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Anne who had the most beautiful red hair you have ever seen. It was bright like autumn leaves and shiny like copper pennies. Anne was riding on a big train, clickety-clack, clickety-clack, all the way to a place called Prince Edward Island. She pressed her nose against the window and watched the trees and fields go by. Anne was an orphan, which means she did not have a mama or papa, but she had something very special - the biggest imagination in the whole world. As the train pulled into the station with a loud CHOO-CHOO, Anne picked up her small bag and stepped onto the platform. Her red braids bounced as she walked, and her green eyes sparkled with hope. She was going to meet some people who might want her to live with them. Anne had never had a real home before, but she dreamed about it every single day.
