How Kanga Got His Tail

Once upon a time, in the red earth country of Australia, there lived a kangaroo named Kanga. He was different from all the other kangaroos, because Kanga had no tail at all! While his friends could hop and balance with their strong, beautiful tails, poor Kanga could only take small, wobbly steps. The warm sun painted the rocks golden, and the eucalyptus trees whispered in the gentle breeze. Kanga sat by the billabong, watching the water ripple, feeling sad and lonely. He wished more than anything that he could hop and play like the others.
