How Rabbit Stole Fire — scene 1

Once upon a time, in a village nestled among tall pine trees and rolling hills, there lived a clever rabbit named Rabbit. The winter had been very long and very cold. Snow covered the ground like a thick white blanket, and icy winds whistled through the trees. The people in Rabbit village were shivering in their homes. They had no fire to keep them warm, no fire to cook their food, and no fire to light their way in the dark. Rabbit looked around at his friends and family - the children with chattering teeth, the elders wrapped in many blankets, everyone huddled together trying to stay warm. His heart felt heavy seeing his people suffer. There must be something I can do, Rabbit thought to himself. He was small, but he was very clever and very brave. As he sat by the frozen river, watching his breath make little clouds in the cold air, Rabbit made a promise to himself and to his people: he would find a way to bring warmth to his village.
