Stone Soup

Once upon a time, three tired travelers walked along a dusty road. They had been walking for many days, and their stomachs were empty and rumbling. The sun was setting, painting the sky orange and pink, when they saw a small village ahead. The travelers smiled hopefully. Surely the kind people in this village would share some food with hungry strangers! They walked through the village gates, their worn boots clicking on the cobblestone streets. The travelers looked around at the cozy houses with warm light glowing in the windows. They could smell delicious food cooking, and their mouths watered. But they were patient and polite, these three wise travelers. They would ask nicely for help.
