The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn — scene 1

Once upon a time, in a small town by the great Mississippi River, there lived a boy named Huckleberry Finn. Everyone called him Huck. Huck lived with a kind woman named Widow Douglas, who tried to teach him to be a proper young gentleman. She made him wear clean clothes, sit up straight at the dinner table, and learn his letters. But Huck felt like a bird in a cage. He missed running barefoot through the woods and sleeping under the stars. Every morning, Widow Douglas would brush his hair and make him say his prayers. She meant well, but Huck's heart longed for adventure and freedom. He would sit by the window, watching the mighty river flow past, dreaming of floating away on its gentle currents.
