The Corn Maiden
Ages 6–7 9 min
Once upon a time, in a beautiful Native American village nestled between rolling hills and whispering streams, the people faced a difficult time. The summer had been dry, and the winter stores were running low. Families gathered around their cooking fires, sharing what little food they had. The children played quietly, their usual laughter softer than before. But even in these hard times, the people did not lose hope. They looked out for one another, sharing their last bits of dried berries and corn meal. The village elders met each evening, their wise faces thoughtful in the firelight, wondering how they could help their community find enough food to last until spring.
