The Feathered Serpent's Gift — scene 1

Long, long ago, when the world was very young, people lived in darkness. There was no warm fire to cook their food or keep them cozy. There was no bright light to help them see at night. The early humans huddled together in the cold, dark world, shivering and hungry. They ate their food raw and cold, and when the sun went down, they could barely see their own hands. They wished and hoped for something to make their lives warmer and brighter, but they did not know what that something could be. The world felt empty and sad without the gift of fire.
