The Five Children and the Wishing Creature — scene 1

Once upon a time, five children came to spend their summer at a lovely countryside house. There was Cyril, the eldest boy who always looked after the others. Anthea was the sensible sister who thought carefully about everything. Robert was full of energy and always ready for adventure. Jane was the gentlest of them all, with a kind heart. And little Lamb, who was really named Hilary, was just a baby with golden curls and bright blue eyes. The children had never been to the countryside before, and everything seemed magical. The house had ivy growing up its walls, and there were gardens full of flowers and trees perfect for climbing. "Oh, what a wonderful place!" said Anthea, looking around with sparkling eyes. "We shall have such adventures here," declared Robert, already planning what to explore first. The summer stretched ahead of them like a golden promise, full of possibilities they could never have imagined.
