The Kappa and the Cucumber — scene 1

Once upon a time, in the mountains of Japan, there lived a special water spirit called a Kappa. His name was Friendly Kappa, and he had smooth green skin that sparkled like emeralds in the sunlight. On top of his head sat a little round bowl that always held fresh, clear water. This was very important to him - it kept him strong and happy. Friendly Kappa loved his home in the beautiful mountain river. The water was so clear you could see all the way to the bottom, where smooth stones lay like sleeping turtles. Cherry blossom petals floated gently on the surface, making the river look like a painting. Every morning, Friendly Kappa would swim through the cool water, his webbed hands and feet helping him glide as gracefully as a fish. He felt peaceful and content in his watery world, surrounded by the gentle sounds of flowing water and singing birds.
