The Phoenix and the Carpet — scene 1

Once upon a time, in a lovely Edwardian house in London, there lived four children named Cyril, Anthea, Robert, and Jane. They were brothers and sisters who loved each other very much. One morning, as the autumn rain tapped gently against the windows, Cyril and Anthea stood in the nursery looking at the bare wooden floor. The room felt cold and empty without a proper carpet. Cyril, who was the eldest and always tried to be responsible, put his hands on his hips and sighed. Anthea, with her kind heart, touched his arm gently. They both knew that their family did not have much money to spend on fancy things. But the baby would need a warm, soft place to play when winter came. The children looked at each other with determination in their eyes. They would find a way to make the nursery cozy and warm, no matter what it took.
