The Secret Garden — scene 1

Once upon a time, in a faraway place called India, there lived a little girl named Mary Lennox. Mary had everything a child could want - beautiful dresses, toys, and servants to do everything for her. But Mary was not happy. She was spoiled and cross, always demanding things and never saying please or thank you. Mary felt very lonely, even though people were always around her. She would sit by herself, frowning and complaining, never smiling or playing nicely with anyone. The warm Indian sun shone through her window, but Mary's heart felt cold and empty. She didn't know how to be kind or how to make friends. Poor Mary didn't understand that being mean to others made her feel sad inside. She was like a little flower that had forgotten how to bloom.
