The Ugly Duckling — scene 1

Once upon a time, by a peaceful Danish pond surrounded by tall reeds and water lilies, there lived a kind mother duck. She had built her cozy nest near the water edge, where the morning sun would warm her feathers. For many days and nights, she sat patiently on her precious eggs, keeping them safe and warm. The mother duck would gently turn each egg with her orange bill, whispering soft duck songs to the little ones growing inside. She could hardly wait to meet her babies! Other animals in the pond would swim by and ask when the eggs would hatch, but the mother duck just smiled and said, Soon, very soon. She knew that good things take time, and the most wonderful surprises are worth waiting for.
